Work as a midwife centres on advice and care for women during puberty, pregnancy, childbirth and recovery and on the development of the child in the first year of its life. Midwives take into consideration individual values and ideas as well as the cultural background of women, children and their families. They apply knowledge of the humanities, the social and natural sciences and work in a variety of interdisciplinary settings such as healthcare institutions, childbirth clinics, surgeries, consultancy centres and with women at home.
Full-time studies are followed by a compulsory additional clinical practice
module lasting ten months.
Nursing professionals who have already qualified to tertiary level education
are offered a shortened full-time study program, which lasts two years.
