User account and password

All students, lecturers and staff of Bern University of Applied Sciences BFH are provided with a BFH user account when starting their studies or taking up employment. Their personal user account provides them with access to individual resources and files at any of the BFH sites.

Each user name is unique. Members who need to study or work at different sites can always use the same user name and password, user account, mail inbox and user directory irrespective of where they are. A user account is active until the person in question leaves BFH.

Personal identification code for BFH students

Students are provided with a personal identification code consisting of the first four letters of their surname, the first letter of their first name and a serial number. This identification code is used together with the domain name as the personal e-mail address (identification code@bfh.ch).

BFH identification code for lecturers and staff members 

Lecturers and staff members are provided with an identification code consisting of the first and third-last letters of their surnames, the first letter of their first name and a serial number. The identification code can also be used together with the mail domain name as an e-mail address. In addition, lecturers and staff members will have an alias address such as: firstname.surname(possibly a number)@bfh.ch.

BFH members can use their personal identification code for the following:

  • To log on to BFH computers (Windows and Unix) 
  • To access the BFH web service (Outlook) on the internet 
  • To access files and directories via the internet 
  • To set up secure connections from the internet to the BFH network 
  • To access resources such as released directories or printers 

Forgotten your password?

If you forget your password, the IT support services at your site can set up a new password for you. In this case, please report to the IT support services directly and bring identification with you. Alternatively, submit your request to your secretariat, which will appropriately forward it.
